What appears in the 2026 collection
The official Mattel Creations U.S. pages list the 2026 Día de Muertos Barbie, product number JJX96, and Ken, product number JJX97, at $81 USD each as of September 25, 2026. Barbie wears a satin mermaid dress; Ken wears a knee-length jacket and hat. Both have removable calavera masks. Different regional listings for these product numbers describe the same dolls, rather than additional U.S. versions. Check the two official U.S. product links below for current availability and promotions.
Reading the fashion and symbolism respectfully
Día de Muertos is a Mexican tradition of remembrance, not simply a Halloween aesthetic. Collector discussion is more meaningful when it recognizes that context and pays attention to how marigold colours, calavera imagery, tailoring, embroidery and memorial symbolism are translated into doll design. The removable masks on the named Barbie and Ken listings give collectors two display approaches: a fully styled ceremonial presentation and an unobstructed view of the dolls’ faces. Detailed official photography is the best place to evaluate how the makeup, mask and fashion relate to one another.
How the Barbie and Ken designs differ
The satin mermaid-dress description suggests a long, body-skimming silhouette for Barbie, while Ken’s knee-length jacket and hat create a more tailored profile. As a pair, the contrasting shapes can make a strong display without requiring identical fabrics or decoration. Collectors choosing only one doll may want to decide whether the face presentation, garment construction or compatibility with previous Día de Muertos releases matters most. Pair collectors should also compare box height and artwork if a symmetrical shelf display is important.
A practical buying checklist
Confirm the product number before purchasing: JJX96 for Barbie and JJX97 for Ken. Save the official U.S. product title and a screenshot of the listing with your receipt. Check the accessories included with each doll, rather than assuming every item in the collection comes with the same pieces. Compare the listed price with shipping and applicable taxes to understand the total. If buying second-hand, ask for close photographs of the mask, face paint, fabric surface and packaging seals.
